Examples of Selecting and Integrating the Catholic Curriculum Standards
Below are multiple samples from the Diocese of Grand Rapids. You can see how they chose to use certain standards in each discipline and how they placed them for mastery at specific levels. They also slightly reworded or combined the Catholic Standards to fit their own particular needs.
Below is another sample of how the standards can be placed for introduction, progression, and mastery at multiple grade levels using a sample from Dr. Sandra Stotsky's 2013 English Language Arts Framework.
The Diocese of Owensboro, KY created a brand new set of K-12 Science standards using the resource material from the appendices of the Catholic Standards as a foundation for an educational, formative introduction.
In this example, The Diocese of Venice decided to include a specific selection of standards from the K-6 Catholic Curriculum and place them at the beginning of each discipline choosing a 6-level grade span. A checklist template was used to facilitate completion of standards.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJXZXIhOul7qO5DsnN94BMz0OdUfJhM4jW6ulnY-yvCL9AO8dKm5snZTccDkJ8K96tbuZwoF69TfiYKgZ8pCSn7x_3DQev5qcutg04hpRF_iIlTwhO5DOXkeW92EinEhGBV0erzeEWhdM/s640/Picture2.png)
The Diocese of Joliet also slipped similar standards into different sub-categories of study at the same grade level. Here is a sample for 2nd grade science.

Grade level teachers can then use the appropriately placed standards to generate educational learning objectives and learning targets. Teachers are encouraged to use creativity and innovation as these are nascent standards unique to Catholic education. Some of the standards may benefit from the creation of developmental learning progressions in order to more fully attain their demands. Guidance on the creation of such learning progressions is available on The Cardinal Newman Society’s website.
